The Graduation Present-summary

Summary

A young man had admired a sports car in a dealer's showroom. As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, his father gave a leather-bound Bible with the young man's name embossed in gold. Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said, "With all your money you give me a Bible?"and he stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible. Many years passed. The young man realized his father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go to him. Before he could made arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away. When he arrived at his father's house, he searched through his father's important papers and saw the still new Bible. As he opened the Bible and read those underlined words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the same dealer's name, the date of his graduation and the words "PAID IN FULL."

Who is responsible for global warming ?-summary

Who is responsible for global warming ?
This winter was marked by wacky weather worldwide : it was summer like in Beijing, where the mercury soared to 16 degrees centigrade at one point, the highest for that date in more than 160 years. In North America, the weather was especially unpredictable : heating oil prices dropped as a result of a warm winter, but then the temperatures fell and snow storms hit the eastern region of the continent, causing deaths and fuel price hikes.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change recently released a report saying that global climate change is most likely caused by use of fossi fuels that produce greenhouse emissions.
A decade after the Kyoto Protocol (京都協議書) that sets limits to emissions of carbon dioxide, some of the world's richest countries including the United States have refused to sign the accord for fear of hurting their economic interests. On the other hand, mainland China and other developing countries have argued that they need to use cheap energy, such as coal power plants, for subsistence.
Fighting global warming should be the joint responsibility of both developed and developing countries. The United States must take the lead in the fight to save the planet. But within two years, China will take the dubious honor as the world's largest emissions producer. It can no longer hide behind its developing country status. -Student Post

We have to seriously that the face this issue while we still lived in this planet. Many countries only thought which decreasing use of the energy will slow down their developing. Bruce Almighty

In this comedy film, Bruce (Jim Carrey) is a leading and facetious character. He worked in a television station, and he did everything wrong and liked complaining all day long. Thus, God (Morgan Freeman) gave him a week miraculous power to create a prettier world.
At the beginning of the story, Bruce asked: "God, why do you hate me?" I thought if people gave the others what they wanted, people would want to get more. It is human nature. Though he had God's power to control the entire world, he did not get the heart of his former girlfriend (Jennifer Aniston). He asked God, "How to make people love me?" God answered, "It is a good question. If you know the answer, remember to tell me."
Though it was a comedy movie, behind stimulate deep thought for human being. I treasure friendship between my friends and me before I saw this meaningful movie.

My winter vacation

07' winter tour

During the winter vacation period, coming up with The Lunar New Year, I took a trip to Taipei for three days with my aunt's family. We went to many places, including Taipei 101, Xin Yi Shopping Area(信義商圈), Yangming Mountain(陽明山), an old street of Dan Shui(淡水老街) and Breeze Center(微風廣場).

The first day, we took a taxi to Taipei 101 which is the highest skyscraper of the whole world. It had many famous brand-name clothes and shoes, and all floors were crowded with people who went shopping. Business starts at night which has lively and beautiful night scenes in Xin Yi Shopping Area. The next day, we went to Yangming Mountain to admire the cherry blossom by MRT in the early morning. When we came to Zhuzi Lake(竹子湖), the heavy fog and low temperature were all around the mountain. We saw lots of pretty flowers, like cherry blossom and calla. Afterward we had seafood at the old street of Dan Shui in the night. Finally, we went shopping in Breeze Center and ate Taipei's famous snack.

I express my gratitude to my uncle who took us to visit several scenic spots. It was a very happy trip. I had a very different experience in Taipei.

Comparison and Contrast-final

Department stores and mail-order catalogues
There are two different stores where we can buy our goods. One is department stores, and the other is mail-order catalogues. Department stores have to build a large building and call many kinds of manufacturers together there. Nevertheless, mail-order just only put shopping lists on the Internet or paper. There are three different points: shopping time, fitting, touching and feeling of merchandise.
With regard to shopping time, mail-order catalogues are more abstemious than department stores. On the Internet, we can buy many types of merchandise just sitting on your sofa as well as operating your computer. On the other hand, you have to go out for shopping to the department stores.
On personal service aspect, mail-order catalogues differ from department stores. Unlike department stores, which give customers fitting room service and let them to know if the clothes fit or not, mail-order catalogues don't provide the service of this kind. Moreover, mail-order catalogues provide us with immediate information about clothes.
Despite the fact of that mail-order catalogues are very convenient, you can't touch and feel the merchandise when you buy it. In contrast, in department stores customers can touch, fit, feel, eat and watch the products even though they won't buy them.
Although mail-order catalogues have the advantage of convenience for customers, they can't ensure that the quality of merchandise when they want to buy. Furthermore, we may buy the second-hand goods. Based on the differences mentioned above, I prefer department stores because I can try on the clothes before I buy them.
